A ventilator machine, also known as a respirator or mechanical ventilator, is a medical device designed to support patients who are unable to breathe adequately on their own. It delivers oxygen-rich air to the lungs and removes carbon dioxide, assisting with the respiratory process. Ventilators are used in various clinical settings, including intensive care units, emergency rooms, and operating rooms, to treat conditions such as respiratory failure, pneumonia, or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

To use a ventilator, medical professionals typically insert a breathing tube into the patient’s airway, which is connected to the ventilator machine. The machine then delivers controlled amounts of oxygen and air into the lungs, mimicking the natural breathing process. Parameters such as tidal volume, respiratory rate, and inspiratory/expiratory ratio can be adjusted based on the patient’s condition.
